SORA Technology Participated in Pan-African Mosquito Control Association (PAMCA) Kenya Chapter 2026 as a Gold Sponsor
Hands-On Tech-Enabled LSM and Tech-Enabled Sub-National Tailoring: From Digital Field Operations to Better Intervention Prioritization

SORA Technology Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Nagoya, Japan; Founder & CEO: Yosuke Kaneko; hereafter “SORA Technology”), which provides advanced drone and AI solutions across public health, agriculture, and climate resilience, announced that it participated as a Gold Sponsor in the Pan-African Mosquito Control Association (PAMCA) Kenya Chapter 2026, held in Nairobi, Kenya, from September 1 to 3, 2026.

SORA Technology at PAMCA 2026

At PAMCA 2026, SORA Technology delivered two complementary sessions. First, SORA hosted a hands-on workshop titled “How to Get Tech-Enabled LSM Started — and Beyond,” focused on practical use of the Zzapp Malaria platform (app) for tech-enabled Larval Source Management (LSM). Participants downloaded the app directly to their own smartphones and used it during the session to experience how digital tools can support field tasking, implementation, and monitoring.

The workshop was well attended, with participants actively taking part in the smartphone-based exercise. By using the app themselves, participants could experience how a digital workflow connects microplanning and task assignment with field implementation and monitoring in day-to-day LSM operations.

Tech-Enabled Sub-National Tailoring: Putting the Right Intervention in the Right Place

Second, SORA Technology presented its concept of Tech-Enabled Sub-National Tailoring (SNT). SNT is broader than LSM: it uses risk and programme intelligence to help determine which intervention, or combination of interventions, should be prioritized in each operational area. Core tools such as insecticide-treated nets remain central, while LSM, indoor residual spraying, surveillance, and other measures can be added or intensified where local risk and operational conditions justify them.

The presentation showed how technology can make established sub-national tailoring principles more operational — screening a broad area first, then adding higher-resolution validation only where it can change a programme decision.

The approach included:

  • Satellite and programme-data screening: Combining satellite, population, routine programme, and other available data to screen the full catchment and identify areas requiring closer attention.
  • AI risk stratification and prioritization: Ranking communities by transmission risk, access, intervention coverage and use, and operational feasibility to support “which tool, where” decisions.
  • Targeted drone and field validation: Using drone mapping and field checks selectively in high-risk or uncertain areas; where LSM is justified, AI can identify and prioritize mappable, treatable, and recurrent breeding sites.
  • Digital microplanning and adaptive monitoring: Translating priorities into tasks, routes, and field plans, tracking implementation and results, and updating plans as new information becomes available.

The key message was that technology does not replace malaria interventions. It helps programmes use existing tools more precisely — identifying where risk sits, prioritizing the appropriate intervention mix, and linking decisions to implementation, monitoring, and follow-up.

Participation in PAMCA Kenya Chapter 2026 provided an opportunity to exchange knowledge and perspectives with vector control professionals and stakeholders, demonstrate a hands-on digital workflow for LSM, and introduce SORA Technology’s broader Tech-Enabled SNT approach for malaria programmes.

SORA Technology will continue working with partners across Africa and globally to develop, evaluate, and scale data-driven approaches that strengthen tech-enabled LSM and sub-national tailoring, improve the precision of malaria vector control, and contribute to the goal of a malaria-free future.
